last night/earlier this week there were high hopes for A LOT of snow coming to ann arbor and premature anger at umichigan for not calling a snow day. wellll I have a few thoughts on that.
a. the hype almost guaranteed that it could not be as bad as we expected
-it's like when you hear a movie was great and you watch it, expecting it to be awesome and while it may have been good, you were expecting much better and it comes off as bad (love actually. thanks guys)
-we wanted it too bad
b. it wasn't that bad here. I was hugely disappointed. the roads were iffy but we got maybe 6 inches. the sidewalk kinda disappeared but I think some of that was from the wind
c. the rumor that law students sued michigan after a snow day for missed class is not true
d. the last time michigan had a snow day: 1978. for 19 inches. sooooo chances were small anyways
e. I was/am okay with going to my classes today (which was pretty much happening no matter what, they live on campus I think and were not cancelling/all my classes are in the afternoon)
f. twitter is awesome. I follow the weather channel breaking news and was very informed very easily. (if you are stuck on the road in a blizzard, turn your car on for 10 minutes every hour, leave a not-facing-the-wind window cracked to get fresh air, tie a brightly colored cloth to your antenna) it is also a good way for people to communicate to a large group of people quickly. example: ChicagoRedCross tweeted asking for a safe place near Lake Shore Drive that stranded drivers could get to. TWCBreaking retweeted it. someone gave an address/location. again, quick. get twitter! (and follow me...)
g. watch out, at least 2 people have died shovelling already.
