after lots of searching (on Sam's part) and a few meetings for planning our spring break trip, it looks like Florida is falling through. so now, just over a month before that lovely week of no school, we are going in a completely different direction from the relaxing, sun-filled break I've been on every other year. instead we may be heading to....
CHICAGO!!
but what will we do? where will we stay? after a bit of research, this is what I've found:
**planning for 4 people to stay in each room, 2 rooms, Sat-Wed (4 nights)
King Suite near the John Hancock
special offer right now: $89/room
pros: cheap, good location, fitness center, rooftop sundeck, includes microwave/coffeemaker/refrigerator, 2 blocks from the lake, wireless
cons: one bed
2 Doubles near the Tribune building
$79/room
pros: cheap, good location, fitness center, 2 beds, includes coffeemaker
cons: no wireless, but we can go to a starbucks nearby...
2 Doubles "coveniently located"
$70/room for the first 3 nights, $85 for Tuesday night... not sure why
pros: 2 beds, free wi-fi, coffee maker, "conveniently located"
cons: "conveniently located"? slash sketchily located??
activities:
Art Institute of Chicago
$12 for students
10:30a-5p
Field Museum
$12 for students
9a-5p
Museum of Science and Industry
$15 general admission
9:30a-4p
Planetarium
$10 without the recommended shows ($27 with)
10a-4p
Shedd Aquarium
free on Mondays!!
9a-5p
John Hancock Observatory
$15 general admission or $21 to include open air skywalk and souvenir
9a-11p
Sears Tower Skydeck
$15.95 general admission
10a- 9p, they recommend going for the sunset or visit after 8p for a possible view of up to four states... I don't believe it.
Segway Tour?
9a: $55 // 2 hours
12p, 3p, 6p: $59 in cash // 2 1/2 hours
and finally... bars
Duffy's Tavern and Grille
a home away from home for wolverines (though that's sort of what we're trying to get away from...) and trivia on Tuesday nights
Streeter's Tavernlife sized games and Wii on Mondays... yesss
anyone have anything else to add?
I've got lots of recommendations but I'm headed out the door so I'll leave you with this one for now: Mad River is another Michigan bar that (in my experience) is way cooler than Duffy's. But you are welcome to decide for yourself.
